Beit Guvrin-Maresha National Park is in the lowlands of the Judean Hills west of Jerusalem. The biblical city of Maresha consists of chalk brick and lime quarries (bell caves), homes, burial caves, dovecotes (columbaria), and storerooms. The doves were raised to supply the required sacrifices for pilgrims en route to Jerusalem.
